NEW ENGLAND STATES SUMMARY
NEW HAMPSHIRE There are now over 6800 miles of trails in New Hampshire and there are 112 local clubs in the 10 counties. You can register your Snowmobile in one of over 200 locations across the state. Maximum speed limit on trails is 45 miles per hour. Operators under 12 must be accompanied by a licensed adult. Operators 12-17 must be accompanied by a licensed adult or have a license or OHRV Safety Certificate. Helmets are required for all passengers and operators under the age of 18. VERMONT There are more than 4500 miles of trails in Vermont. There are 150 local clubs and Vast membership is well over 33,000. You can register your snowmobile in any one of 500 Vast sponsored locations across the state. Trail Maintenance Passes are mandatory for both Residents and Non-Residents. Also a $2.00 transfer fee is required when your machine has been sold or traded in. Junior riders under the age of 16 must complete a Snowmobile Safety Course and must be supervised by an adult of at least 18 years of age. MAINE Maine has over 12000 miles of trails with numerous agents to register your sleds throughout the state. You can also register on-line at the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife. Maine residents also must pay a sales tax prior to registering a sled. Children must be 10 years or older to operate a snowmobile on land other than that owned by their parent unless accompanied by an adult. A child must be at least 14 years old before he can cross a public way. Failure to stop at customs will result in a $5000 fine and the confiscation of the sled. Their are no speed limits in Maine. MASSACHUSETTS Massachusetts has no reciprocity and you must be registered if youoperate on property other than your own.There are only 4 locations to register your sled.Cape Cod Islands tel-508-771-8382,Southeast Tel 508-679-8287,Central 508-753-0600 and West 413-733-1642. No other info is available on Snowmobiling in the State of Massachusetts except to say the best riding in the state is in the Berkshires. CONNECTICUT Most riding in Connecticut is done in State Forests.Operators must be 16 years or older and properly licensed. There are 11 State Forests to ride in.Snowmobiling is permitted on certain state owned properties through posted, written, conditional permission directed to the general public for the use of defined trsils. All state owned bodies of water are also allowed. You must be registered to ride on these properties and must carry the registration certificate on your sled. 20miles an hour maximum speed with a minimum 6 inches of snow on the ground.Hours of operation are 8am to sunset. |
